NRG Hydrogen declares the “Beautiful Challenge” of producing clean hydrogen from discarded biomass resources. Amidst the challenges of our time—addressing global warming and achieving the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)—the role of clean hydrogen is becoming increasingly important.

Currently, most hydrogen production relies on natural gas reforming, and the greenhouse gases generated during this process remain a challenge that needs to be addressed. Waste to Hydrogen! This is precisely the solution: a three-stage business model that utilizes discarded biomass to produce clean hydrogen and electricity.

We examine the significance of this Beautiful Challenge alongside the management philosophy of NRG Hydrogen, which began with hydrogen production experiments in August 1992 and the production of new products in 1994.

First, our beautiful challenge is to “lead the standards for sustainable energy.” From cradle to grave, everyone uses resources and energy and discards waste as part of their daily lives. We can no longer speak of a better future through methods that damage the environment. NRG Hydrogen is taking on the challenge of a three-stage virtuous cycle of sustainable energy:

1) Creating eco-friendly clean hydrogen by utilizing discarded waste resources,

2) Producing clean hydrogen from that fuel in collaboration with Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) in the United States, and

3) Furthermore, generating clean electricity.

Second, our beautiful challenge is “mutual growth with local communities and businesses.” Local communities serve as a strong safety net for corporate growth. We practice sharing and service by cooperating with the local community, which is the foundation of our business. Through sharing with the local community and collaborating with local businesses, NRG Hydrogen’s beautiful challenge fosters mutual growth and builds stronger relationships together.

Third, our beautiful challenge is “ethical and safe responsible management.” NRG Hydrogen operates ethically and complies with various regulations, from clean hydrogen production to electricity generation using clean hydrogen. We introduce eco-friendly facilities that drastically reduce greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions, and we prioritize safety above all else by eliminating the root causes of accidents such as fires and explosions.

NRG Hydrogen’s beautiful challenge chooses direction over speed and responsibility over efficiency. This is because NRG Hydrogen’s technology is not a means to an end, but a challenge to protect the future. We will prove it with results.

Just as nature has cycled for a long time, NRG Hydrogen will lead the way in sustainable energy standards without ceasing. NRG Hydrogen will always stand at the center of that change.
